The tour starts in Kagili the capital of Rwanda. Visiting the Genocide Memorial and learning about Rwanda's history from pre-colonial to the 1994 genocide.
To visit the Gorilla's permits are required. Only 50 per day are issues. And trekkers are split into groups of 8 - 10 trekkers.
We are only permitted 1 hour to view these magnificent creatures.
We will also visit the Golden Monkeys also small groups and only allowing 1 hour to view.
Day 1: Arrive Kagili, Rwanda
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Day 3: Gorilla Trek
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trek. Transfer to Kagili to connect with evening flight home.
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your to connect wit your flight to Kigali-Rwanda. (Rwanda air operates this flight on Wednesdays Fridays and Sundays only - 17:25-17:55 (1 hour 15 mins) Group will be met on arrival and transferred to your accommodation in Kigali. After breakfast you head out on a city tour of Kigali including a visit to the Genocide Memorial site a grim reminder of a senseless massacre of innocent lives in 1994. Learn about Rwanda's history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide: learn about other genocides in the world and how this country has dealt with that past. Tour more and see the new developments in Rwanda; the recovery has been incredible, a testament to humankind's resilience. The history of Rwanda dates back centuries, Kigali has been a part of it for 100 years. Founded in 1907 as a German settlement, Kigali did not become the capital until Rwanda's independence in 1962 when it replaced the colonial seat of power in Butare. Visit the local market. After an early breakfast at 6:30am you will head to RDB offices for briefing on your gorilla trekking that starts at 07:00am.
Volcanoes National park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range home of the rare Mountain Gorillas and the rich mosaic of montane ecosystems which embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, pen grassland, swamp ad heath. You may spot a wide variety of birdlife, but the highlight of your trek will be spending an hour with the remarkably peaceful gorillas.
You will be an hour with these wonderful creatures before returning to the lodge for lunch. Remember you will be racking through tough terrain and good footwear is very important. O/n Tiloreza Eco Lodge (B,,L,D)
This day you will have an early morning breakfast before you head out on the Golden Monkey trek. Trekking Golden Monkey's and Gorillas is a similar experience - in a small group of no more than eight people and you can spend one hour with the monkeys once you find them. The endangered species are very active creatures, ad jump from tree to tree which is very interesting and a little difficult to photograph. After the trek you will transfer to the lodge for lunch and then transfer back to to Kigali where you connect with your flight back home (B,L) The transfer to Kigali will take approximately 2.5 hours getting back to Kigali around 4pm . It is possible to connect with an evening flight today.
